How Do I Get My Wisteria To Bloom!

Wisteria is one of the most vigorous and beautiful flowering vines. Wisteria should bloom abundantly if planted in good garden loam, in a full sun location, watered well the first growing season, and PRUNED in the summer.

In mid-summer, prune long wispy side-shoots back to about five or six leaves from the main framework – the canes that form the climbing or structural part of the plant. As wisterias bloom on the previous years growth, this will encourage a large number of short branches that will give rise to the next years flower buds.

At this time you can also remove any stems not wanted on the main framework to keep the plant in check. This method of pruning will maintain the plant at a manageable size, make it more attractive, and when it does flower, the blooms will be visible.

Fertilizer will also aid in promoting blooms on wisteria. We suggest using Miracle Gro Ultra Bloom once every 10 days throughout the spring and summer.
