Poor Soil Conditions

Gardening in clay soil provides both challenges and benefits.  On the positive side, clay soil holds onto moisture and nutrients very well due to its structure.  However, clay sometimes holds water too well, resulting in slow-draining, mucky soil.  Heavy clay is also quite dense, making it difficult for roots to extend far into the soil.  Luckily, there are plants that are adapted to just these conditions!  The plants listed below are your best bets for gardening in heavy clay soil.
