The Pondless Waterfall

One exciting new trend opening doors for many potential water gardeners is the pondless waterfall. With yards getting smaller and time becoming more limited many are looking for more compact water features and less maintenance.

We have all experienced the wonder of nature as water gently trickles over the rocks creating a small waterfall or rapids. Creating this piece of nature in your backyard has often been a challenge. Not anymore

Why would anyone want to have a waterfall without a pond for the water to fall into? You'd think that waterfalls and ponds go together like peanut butter and jelly, or bacon and eggs. Right?

Interestingly enough though, the answer to this question is …WRONG! In fact historically, one challenge for water gardeners has always been lack of space. In other words, if you don’t have room in the back yard, it’s tough to fit a pond in. This is why you see so few water gardens in the city … lack of space.

There is however a natural solution to the space problem ... "The Pondless Waterfall". Introduced recently, the pondless waterfall looks natural, sounds natural, it’s filtered like a constructed wetlands area, and most importantly, it takes up less space than a conventional pond, stream, and waterfall.

The pondless waterfall is a natural looking waterfall with the water trickling or cascading (you choose) over rocks and disappearing into a bed of rock. That’s right … no pond at the bottom. A pump under a basin filled with rocks and stone re-circulates the water back to the top or your falls. This prominent feature maintains the focal point of a pond (the waterfall) with its soothing sound and motion without the pool of water.

The pondless waterfall takes less space to construct but still attracts wildlife. It provides all the structure to support water plants and landscaping but reduces concerns about small children or pets around the traditional pond therefore lessening liability. It is a great alternative for those who do not want to support fish life and the care and feeding associated with it. The pondless waterfall is easy to maintain and can be turned on and off like a light switch.

Small backyards and vacation properties (trailer or cottage) are great places for the pondless waterfall because they are virtually maintenance free. Just plug it in or turn it on when you want to, and shut it off when you leave if you like. Or, maybe you want to place it in your front yard, as there is no pond there are no concerns. Complete kits with installation videos are available.

All you need is some effort, rocks and water and you’ll be on your way to a naturally beautiful water feature. Stop by now and explore this great do-it-yourself project. It’s easier than you think.
