To overseed, mow grass closely, use a rake to remove debris and loosen top 6 mm (1/4 inch) of soil in bare and thin areas. For new lawns, loosen top 5 – 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inches) of soil to provide lodging place for the seeds. Distribute the seed evenly and then gently rake area to work seed into the soil. For best results, always use a Scotts® brand spreader and follow the spreader setting recommendations on the bag of grass seed. Apply Scotts® Starter Food for New Grass and then water thoroughly. WATERING IS CRUCIAL TO SEEDING SUCCESS. Keep the soil damp by watering twice daily for 6-8 weeks. In 4 to 6 weeks, apply Scotts® Turf Builder® Lawn Fertilizer to help plants knit together. Do not apply a weed control product until after at least 3 mowings.
