TERRA carries fresh and colourful plants for your perennial garden. Perennial plants are those that live for more than two years and continue to sprout and grow yearly. It is important to distinguish the difference between perennial plants and annuals, which are plants that only grow for one year.
It is best to plant these long-living plants in the spring or fall when temperatures are cooler to ensure they get a healthy start, but speak to our garden experts to find out the best time to plant your perennial garden. A major benefit to planting perennials is their durable water conservation system. While all plants need water, as a result of their strong root system, they are often able to survive periodic dry spells. Some perennials are even drought tolerant.
Your new garden is the perfect place to incorporate some perennial grasses, such as ryegrass, which is a popular choice in cooler climates, and a few perennial flowers.

Some common shade perennials include:
- Hostas (they grow well in the sun or shade!)
- Bleeding Hearts
- Painted Ferns
• Use hand pruners or scissors to remove flower stems just above the leaf.
• Complete a daily or weekly inspection of your perennial plants to remove weeds surrounding your plant. Pulling them by hand is fine.
• Frequently inspect your perennials for pests or problems that might be negatively affecting your plant’s health.
Proper maintenance of your plant ensures that it has a long and healthy life, well spent making your garden beautiful.
